How Kwame Nkrumah GPA Works
Based on the official Kwame Nkrumah University (KNU) Student Information Handbook.
Overview
The grading and point system at Kwame Nkrumah University (KNU) is structured to determine your academic standing and degree classification. The university uses a point-based system where grades for "Full Courses" carry double the weight of "Half Courses".
KNU Grading Scale and Points
| Percentage | Grade | Full Course | Half Course | Description |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 86% – 100% | A+ | 5 | 2.5 | Distinction |
| 76% – 85% | A | 4 | 2.0 | Distinction |
| 66% – 75% | B+ | 3 | 1.5 | Merit |
| 56% – 65% | B | 2 | 1.0 | Credit |
| 46% – 55% | C+ | 1 | 0.5 | Pass |
| 40% – 45% | C | 0 | 0.0 | Bare Pass |
| Below 40% | F/D+ | 0 | 0.0 | Fail |
How the System Works
- Assessment MixYour final grade is a combination of Continuous Assessment (CA) and a Final Examination.
- Progress RequirementsYou must have a complete CA score before sitting for exams. Failing a final exam requires repeating the course.
- Registration LimitsStudents typically register for no more than seven courses per academic year.
- Class AttendanceRegular attendance is mandatory. Missing three consecutive periods can lead to deregistration.
Key Academic Comments
Clear PassYou have passed all registered courses.

GPA Calculation Example
Based on the Kwame Nkrumah University handbook, here is a calculation example assuming all are Full Courses:
| Course | Grade | Points (Full) |
|---|---|---|
| Course 1 | B+ | 3 |
| Course 2 | B+ | 3 |
| Course 3 | B+ | 3 |
| Course 4 | B | 2 |
| Total Points | 11 Points | |
Average GPA Calculation
Sum of Points (11) ÷ Number of Courses (4) = 2.75 GPA
Academic Standing
A 2.75 GPA puts you in a solid "Credit" standing, moving toward "Merit".
