How Mulungushi GPA Works
Based on the official Mulungushi University Academic Regulations (November 2025).
Overview
Mulungushi University uses a specific Grading Point System and a points-based Degree Classification System. Your final degree rank is determined by the cumulative points you earn from exactly 20 courses taken during your senior years:
- 4-Year Programmes: Points from 3rd and 4th-year levels.
- 5-Year Programmes: Points from 4th and 5th-year levels.
1. Grading Point System
Each letter grade you receive is assigned a specific point value based on your percentage score:

| 66% – 75% | B+ | 1.5 | Merit |

| 50% – 54% | C | 0.25 | Bare Pass |
| 45% – 49% | D+ | 0 | Bare Fail |
| 44% and below | D | 0 | Fail |
How Points are Calculated
To find your total, you simply add the point value for each grade together. For example:

2. Degree Classification
Your final degree rank is determined by the cumulative points you earn from exactly 20 courses taken during your senior years.
Distinction40 Points and above
Merit30 – 39.9 Points
Credit20 – 29.9 Points
PassLess than 20 Points
3. Key Progression Rules
To maintain your GPA and progress through the program, you must follow these rules:
- Pass MarkYou must score at least 50% (Grade C) to pass a course.
- Clear PassPassing all semester courses with no arrears allows you to proceed.
- Proceed and RepeatIf you fail 3 or fewer courses in a semester, you may proceed but must repeat those failed subjects.
- Part-Time StatusIf you carry 5 or more cumulative failed courses, you are moved to part-time status and can only register for a maximum of 3 courses per semester.
- ExclusionFailing a full load of courses in a single semester will result in exclusion from the programme.
